The cultivation and processing of willow warts in Linshu County has a long history. As early as in the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, the villagers in “Liuzhuang Village” in Linshu County, named after the willow Warts, began to plant the willow warts. The myth that “Liu Yi plants willow trees for the benefit of the people” gives people the desire for a better life. The industrious and intelligent Linshu people live by planting willow and get rich by weaving willow. They weave a variety of daily necessities and crafts with their dexterous hands and create a happy life as picturesque as poetry, forming a brilliant and unique “Willow culture”. Now, after thousands of years of accumulation, sixty years of industrialization, more than ten years of clustering and recent years of innovative development, Linshu continuous integration of resources, humanities, history, art, innovation and other characteristics, gradually formed a set of planting, processing, export as one of the export of foreign trade industrial system.
Linshu wicker is the fifth batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative projects. Linshu County was awarded the title of “Capital of Wickerwork in China” by the China Arts and Crafts Association in 2009, and the “Hometown of Folk Culture and Art in Shandong Province” from 2018 to 2020 and from 2021 to 2023. It has been successfully selected as the “Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art” in 2021-2023 through years of creation. Linshu has become the largest willow planting base and willow product processing and export base in China, forming a distinct regional brand advantage.
